About & Sourcing

What this site is, and how it works.

What this is

Best Local News is a headline aggregator. For each country, it shows the latest headlines from that country's own major news outlets, side by side, refreshed every few minutes. We don't write or edit any of the articles ourselves — every headline links straight to the original story on the publisher's own website.

How sourcing works

Headlines, thumbnails, and publish times come from each outlet's own public RSS feed wherever one exists — the same mechanism outlets use to syndicate to Google News, Apple News, and RSS readers. A handful of outlets don't publish a usable feed, so for those we read the same public homepage a visitor would see in their browser. Either way, we only ever display a headline, a small thumbnail, and a link — never the full article text.

Currently that's 73 outlets across 14 countries, and growing as we add more. Every card is labeled with the outlet it came from, and clicking it takes you directly to that outlet's site.

Why some articles have no picture

Not every outlet's feed includes an image, and a few article pages don't expose one we can safely read. Rather than substitute a generic placeholder, we just show the headline on its own in that case.

Corrections & removal requests

If a headline is wrong, outdated, or you're a publisher who'd rather we not include your feed, tell us at the contact page and we'll sort it out.
